The threat is real — and peer-reviewed

Published research, not speculation

A 2025 study by researchers from EPFL and Google demonstrated an LLM-powered pipeline that re-identifies pseudonymous online users by linking activity across platforms — Reddit, Hacker News, LinkedIn — through semantic embeddings and open-web search.

The method achieved 68% recall at 90% precision compared to near 0% for the best traditional (non-LLM) approach. The authors conclude that anonymous online identities are substantially more fragile than previously assumed.
